Service Description

Artist and art educator Hannah Joy King introduces artists at all levels, absolute beginner and above, to the exciting possibilities of charcoal. This versatile medium has captivated artists for centuries and been used throughout art history from prehistoric caves to contemporary expressive abstraction. Hannah is an artist with a degree in Art History that resonates through all her work. As an artist educator, she achieved her PGCE in education in 2024, receiving an award from the National Society for the Education of Art and Design (NSEAD) in her first year teaching. Her artistic practice investigates authenticity, responding to the freedom of genuine connections between people, their own bodies, histories and cultures. Charcoal has been the most significant medium in her practice and in the past has worked as street artist producing charcoal portraits. Most recently, she took charcoal to Uganda, leading workshops with youth in a detention centre.
